HOMETOWN BUFFET
Couldn't rest until I wrote this story for C. Dennis Scott!!!
Please feel free to watch before you scroll.
I can't believe it! Up until recently, I've told the story about my conversation with C. Dennis Scott, co-founder of Buffets Inc.
Our conversation contributed to my life taking a different course. It involved $64,941.00!
Here is that story again, but after I show you these findings:
HomeTown Buffet
At one time, there were more than 250 restaurants open under the HomeTown Buffet brand, primarily on the West Coast and in the Northeast regions. In the late 1990s, several restaurants rebranded from Old Country Buffet to HomeTown Buffet when the two chains merged.

When I first learned about unclaimed property, I was looking to monetize my skills, without ripping anyone off. I had been ripped off by deceptive business practices. I had paid $20 for free unclaimed property information.
I didn't know that it's more rewarding to just give freely and sometimes you get blessed.
I was looking for free meals for my kids.
In 2001/2002, I called the corporate headquarters of Hometown Buffet in Minnesota and they directed me to call San Diego, California.
I was so excited. I asked to speak to someone in accounting, after babbling on about $64,941.
The receptionist said, “hold please.”.
A voice says, “C. Dennis Scott, how many I help you?”. Once again, I stuttered my way through explaining that I was a big fan of Hometown Buffet, I have 6 kids who love eating there, and how I found a boatload of money in the California State Controllers Office. One account from Coca Cola Bottling Company was for $64,941!!!
Mr. Scott calmly said, “Hold on a second.”
He then said, “What happened was, Coca Cola pays us to have only Coca Cola products in our restaurants.”
“We were moving our corporate office to our current location, and this money got lost in the move.”
Anyway, he was on his way out of town and told me to keep in touch. But of course , I got busy doing other things and didn't follow through.
I tried to contact him again in 2005 (right after Hurricane Katrina), but to no avail.
I'll let you know how the story ends, we just recently reconnected.
Remember, I never ask for anything.
